Yesterday’s reports suggested that Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole was on his way to French side Lille. All summer it’s seemed as if Liverpool wanted Cole of their wage bill, and the opportunity to play Champions League football at Lille was a big draw for Cole.

Just when it looked like the Deal would be finalised today, Aston Villa appear to have made a very late move to sign the player. It is unclear whether Villa manager Alex Mcleish is looking for a loan or permanent deal, but they seem to be prepared to pay Cole’s substantial wage demands.

We had believed that Cole was on board a EuroStar train to France yesterday, he he made need a quick dash back to the UK to discuss a deal to Villa!

Elsewhere, many reports are suggesting that James Milner has left the England training camp and could be on his way to Liverpool. The reds look to have finally moved on Poulsen, and David Ngog is on his way to Bolton.

We love transfer deadline day!
