The 2010 World Cup will be hosted in South Africa this summer. It will be the 19th time the tournament has been held and since its creation the premier football competition has become the number one sporting event the world over.
The first game will take on June 11th and will the hosts take on Mexico in Johannesburg. The match will be played in the brand new Soccer City Stadium, which will also host the final on 11th July.

It will be the first time the tournament has been hosted in an African country, with South Africa beating both Egypt and Morocco in the bidding process. After strong concerns that the country was not ready to host such a big event, everything now appears ready to go. It was the first time that the host nation competed in the qualifying games, though South Africa were alwaus guaranteed qualifaction as the host country. The had to participate in the games as it also acted as the qualification campaign for the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations.
The early favourites for the tournament are Brazil, Spain and England, but all the usual suspects are up there. Italy are the defending champions and after nearly not qualifying Argentine are 9/1.
