Luis Suarez waits decision on Evra rascism charge

Today both Liverpool and strike Luis Suarez are awaiting the decision from the panel heading up the hearing relating to his racism charge.

The hearing started last week and it was announced that a decision would not be made until Tuesday at the earliest. The FA a totally justified in the delay, the right decision must be made here. If they find Suarez guilty then it is likely to lead to them making an example of him, and quite literally ‘throwing the book’ in his direction. His punishment would likely be a big fine and a suspension of anywhere up to 10 games. I’m sure if it was this high an appeal would be immediately launched by him and his club.

Liverpool FC have released a statement saying that they feel their lawyers have put across a very strong legal case to the FA. It appears that their main defence relates to the context in which any word (which was judged racist by Evra and the FA) was said. Many terms that would be judged offensive in the UK, are freely said and accepted across South America.

The hearing is taken place in front of a three man panel and both players have been called to give evidence.
