It’s getting around to that time again. The World Cup is over, the fixtures are out and the new English Premiership season is nearly upon us. The last football season gave us the closest title race for many years and the 2010/11 season looks set to be even closer!
The usual suspects are there, both Manchester United and defending champions Chelsea are the the early favourites. This is no surprise, many bookmakers have Chelsea at just 6/4 to bag back-to-back titles. These two teams have won seven of the last eight Premier League titles, this is a trend that has little chance of ending soon.
Big spending Manachester City are slowly creeping up and it seems the earlier you back them the better. If they continue to spend at the rate they are, their odds will eventually rival anyone. They have alrealy jumped above Arsenal who have slipped to be fourth favourites, even though they finished along way ahead of the team over at Eastlands.
It what might come as a surprise to most, bookmakers still won’t rule out Liverpool, even with all their troubles. Roy Hodgson’s men are priced at 14/1, which puts them ahead of Tottenham. Spurs are looking forward to Champions League football next season and it seems that this may hamper their efforts to challenge the top of the Premier League.
Of the newly promoted teams Newcastle United are the best priced team at 750/1. Those who fancy I real gamble might want to consider that both West Brom and Wolves are 2500/1, with Blackpool to big outsiders at 5000/1.
